The Cohiba brand was created in 1968 as Havana's premier brand, for diplomatic use only. Originally made by Eduardo Ribera, the brand went public in 1982 with 3 sizes: Lanceros, Corona Especial and Panatela. In 1989 three more sizes were added - the Esplendido, Robusto and Exquisitos. In 1992 the La Linea 1492 Series (Siglo) was released. Cohibas are made from only the ten best vegas (plantations) in the Vuelta Abajo regions. The pick from the crop is then selected from the 5 best vegas to create the Cohiba. The filler used in Cohiba also has an additional fermentation in cedar casks, lasting up to 2 years. This further enhances the delicay of the tobacco flavour, ensuring the Cohiba remains one of the Grand Marques in cigars.
